Today’s Startup: Stipple
Today’s internet startup Stipple adds rich media and enables accurate information to be added to images and ensures that the correct information remains associated with the correct photo throughout the web. Stipple lets anyone add an image to their platform via url, site or blog, social media, online store or image uploader. Once an image has been added the magic truly begins!
Stipple allows publishers to tag a person in a photo on the web, enter contextual information such as a Twitter name or Facebook name and then anyone can see their most recent social updates as overlays on that picture. But is also allows people to tag products, advertisements and more in images no matter where they reside on the web. So Publishers can now license photos pre-loaded with revenue and interactive, searchable content.
Take Sara for example. Sara blogs about her photography and hobby turning old lamps into new ones and Sara just made a new lamp. She takes a photo and posts it onto her blog. Cecilia stumbles upon her photo and pins it on her Pinterest. Alex, editor of Hypester Mag sees the photo on Cecilia’s pinboard and immediately blogs about it. Ben follows Hypester Mag closely and tweets his friend Carlo about the lamp. Carlo loves interior design and wants to see more lamps from the designer. But he has no idea who made the lamp. But now, because Sara used Stipple, Carlos can now find information about the lamp and the person behind the photo.
But how does it work?
- You connect images to Stipple via a url, site, blog, facebook, instagram, flickr, online store or the Stipple uploader
- Add your information & stories to those images. If you own it, claim it. Stipple makes sure your images are attributed to you and link back to you wherever they go. When you claim an image, your information and tags travel the web with it. You can tag videos, images, product links, locations, profiles, audio, notes, links.
- Track and Measure. Stipple shows you where your claimed images travel and how people interact with them, down to each dot.
- Promote & share images across the web. Through the Stipple browser extension, on your site of blog, the Stipple Community, with your friends.

Stipple was founded in 2010 by Rey Flemmings and Michael Dungan and holds office in San Francisco
